Much like the coach of a sports team, personal trainers can provide not just expert advice for personal fitness, but the motivation and encouragement to continue forward and maximize your results.

At Pure FX Fitness Studios, our energetic, enthusiastic and highly qualified team of personal trainers is the ideal conduct for achieving your fitness goals. Our phenomenal staff is not only knowledgeable in a variety of dynamic workout routines, but also offer instruction and guidance in a plethora of activities including kickboxing, yoga and spin workouts also offered at our fitness centre. With a range of talented and motivated trainers who specialize in a variety of areas of personal fitness, you can be sure our team will get you in shape and keep you that way.


Andrew Jones
Andrew Jones is one of the most respected personal trainers in Ontario and co-founder of Pure FX Fitness Studios, who has trained thousands of clients throughout his personal training career and successfully helped people achieve goals they never thought possible.

With over 25 years of experience as a personal trainer, Andrew has a true passion for helping people get fit. His client testimonials tell the story of his dedication to helping others and his track record for getting results! He has also trained elite athletes to achieve their full potential and helped many others with just about every other personal fitness goal imaginable.

Andrew is recognized largely for his high energy, no nonsense style of training and his vast knowledge of nutrition and exercise. Andrew’s passion for fitness, his commitment to his clients and his relentless energy are the driving forces behind his success.

His formal education which includes the study of human and functional anatomy, exercise physiology & biomechanics coupled with a lifetime of competitive sports allows him to provide sports specific training, Sport Conditioning, detailed body composition and fitness testing, weight loss and body sculpting, strength training, and muscle building programs and various indoor and outdoor group fitness classes. He also has gained extensive coaching experience in a wide variety of sports like Football, Soccer, Hockey, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing & Kickboxing etc.

Fitness Philosophy: In order to see results, one must put forth the effort. This can only be done with good nutrition, weight training and cardiovascular conditioning. Through these concepts, a person can enhance performance, feel better, and look better for much longer. I believe that anyone who is active is an athlete and must train like one.


Lora Calabro
Having had a passion for fitness at an early age, Lora was no stranger to spending hours training and participating in the sport of figure skating. As a working mom, Lora struggled with the desire to make time to incorporate health and fitness into her busy life. Looking for a challenge, she took up boxing. Boxing instantly sparked an enthusiasm in her and resulted in a transformation, both mentally and physically.

Wanting to take her love for sport and exercise to a professional level, Lora completed her personal training certification through the National Exercise Sports Trainer Association in 2003. In addition, Lora holds a degree in business administration, as well as diploma in aesthetics.

Prior to pursing her career in the health and wellness industry, Lora managed a children’s apparel company for 12 years. During this time, she gained a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience on how to run a successful small business. Lora was involved in all the day-to-day and behind-the-scene duties and responsibilities. From purchasing to design and production, collections, payables, shipping and receiving, she wore many hats.

The personal victories she experienced first-hand prompted her to start her own business, where she could dedicate her life to a viable career in health and fitness and make a real difference in people’s lives. She partnered with Andrew Jones and opened Pure FX Fitness Studios, an innovative studio focused on providing big facility services and amenities with a small-scale friendly atmosphere, a place where members could call their home away from home. Lora integrates her diverse background and experience to create an all-encompassing approach to wellness.

Fitness Philosophy: She believes that “through hard work, dedication and motivation, you can achieve whatever your dreams and goals are as long as you BELIEVE in yourself.”


Debra Besner
Debra Besner has over 20 years of fitness instruction experience. Originally trained as a fitness instructor at McGill University, Debra currently holds certifications in both personal training and spin instruction. Debra has committed herself to health and wellness. In her free time, Debra enjoys spending time with her family.

Fitness Philosophy: “It is your attitude more than your aptitude that determines your altitude.”


Evo
At the young age of 13, Evo picked up his first weight and immediately discovered a passion in body building. He quickly became fascinated on how food affects the shape and form of your body, which led him to an interest in the area of exercise. He became an avid bodybuilder, and now, is a top-level competitive body builder who holds a champion title in the Ontario Physique Association (OPA).

An American Council of Exercise (ACE)-certified personal trainer and CANFIT Pro Certified since 2000, Evo is educated in human anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition and kinesiology, he dedicates his life to sharing his knowledge on how to achieve the body of your dreams in a safe and healthy manner.

Evo’s focus is to increase the knowledge and physical awareness of each individual, helping them to maximize their personal potential, achieve their goals, and increase their quality of life. His extensive experience enables him to produce extremely efficient programs that anyone can fit into their schedule.

Evo specializes in bodybuilding, fitness, figure competition training and nutritional guidance.

Filander Lima
Filander Lima is a CanFitPro Certified Personal Trainer (CFP) and boot camp instructor, who also holds a certification in the Lebert Buddy System,™ a versatile, functional training system that creates a constant tension that works various muscles at once. This provides you with a totally unique training experience.

Filander has had a passion for health and fitness for over 15 years. Soccer has been a part of his life since he a was a child, and as he progressed to a more competitive level, he found that his focus in life became more heart-centred. He found his calling in personal training. Certified since 2008, he has helped numerous clients achieve their weight loss goals, lose inches and simply get healthy. His ability to motivate all ages – with various levels of fitness – to reach their fitness goals is unparalleled.

Fitness Philosophy: “No Excuses!” If you have a fitness goal and you believe you can obtain it and truly want it, I can help you get it! It is important to set goals for my clients, both long and short-term; and through different training techniques that involve circuits, strength training, cardio and core work, together, we can make it happen!”

Joe
After being a personal trainer for over 10 years, Joe discovered his true passion in the fitness industry: kick-boxing. With over 20 years of kickboxing and kung fu experience, as well as a background in nutrition, Joe truly enjoys helping people effectively achieve their fitness goals through kick-boxing. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling and spending time with family.

Fitness Philosophy: “How you train is how you fight. Train hard or go home.”


Lea Tzembelicos
Ever since she could walk, Lea has always moved to the beat of her own drum. She began dancing at the age of 5 but come her senior year as a competitive dancer, her studio closed down. Saddened by this turn of events, Lea’s mom encouraged her to accompany her to a few fitness classes at her local gym… The rest is history. With her new found love of fitness, Lea used her dance background to her advantage within the industry and became certified to teach Aerobics, Dance Fitness and from there the list of her credentials began to grow.

In 2007 she attained her FIS certification with CanFitPro and began her journey at Wilfrid Laurier University as a kickboxing, aerobics and bootcamp instructor. The following year she attained her Schwinn Cycle certification and was promoted to Group Fitness Coordinator. There, she began to teach classes for varsity school teams as well as the university and public community which she continues to do today at Pure FX Fitness Studios. Lea’s certifications are not limited to but also include: Personal Training (PTS) with CanFitPro, Kickboxing with the Fitness Kickboxing Canada Inc. association, Strip to Fit with DivaGirl Fitness, the Equalizer, the Swiss Ball and TRX Band Functional Training.

Lea’s dynamic spirit and passion for fitness are motivating forces that encourage others to strive for their personal best. In fitness, there is no such thing as a “cake walk”. But Lea believes that diligence, patience and a positive outlook are the right tools to achieve your personal best (…and thus, “have your cake and eat it too”!)

Lea has been an enthusiastic demonstrator on The Canadian Shopping Channel alongside Rosalie Brown for various fitness products in 2011 and will soon be seen in a fitness infomercial for the latest Orbitrek Elliptical in 2012!


Maria DeFilippis
Maria DeFilippis is a certified Level 1 spin instructor. She has been teaching spin part-time for the last seven years. Maria started spinning recreationally and then got hooked on the energy, intensity and cardio challenge it has to offer. She believes spinning is among the top efficient cardio activities out there. She creates all her class profiles, as well as all music playlists. “Music is instrumental in creating great energy during the ride,” she says. Besides spinning, Maria keeps physically active with Pilates, weight training and outdoor cycling. She cannot imagine her life without exercise.

On a personal note, she is a full-time mom of a busy four-year-old and happily married. She loves to travel, cook, read and shop!

Fitness Philosophy: “There will always be obstacles standing in the way of achieving dreams and greatness. Exercise is the added fuel that allows us to clear away the mental obstacles and get closer to the finish line.”


Mayo
Exposed to his Latin culture at such a young age, Mayo, born and raised in the Dominican Republic, quickly fell in love with the love of dance, and was consumed with a desire to teach. He has been teaching salsa aerobic classes for over 20 years, and brings a wealth of experience under his “black belt.” Also practising Wado-Ryu Karate since 1999, Mayo holds his FIS certification through CanFitPro. He has had the opportunity to perform and choreograph in various events all over the city.

With his diverse talents and limitless enthusiasm, Mayo combines his high-energy workouts using dances such as salsa merengue, cumbia, cha-cha, rumba, mambo, reggaton and tango. With contagious energy and passion, Mayo will take you through a high-energy, hip-shaking class delivering lots of “latin spice” into your groove.

Fitness Philosophy: “Dancing with the feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another.”


Shawn Joseph
Shawn has specialized in personal training for over twenty years, providing each client he trains with customized programs tailored to body type and goals, for children, adults and seniors.

Always involved in various sports from a young age, Shawn was extremely active in football and track and field. He continued his vigorous training as he became a successful fullback for the junior football league. However, with his passion and talent for track and field, Shawn acquired the title of undefeated, top ranking hurdler for the Mississauga Track Club while he competed with the 4×1 relay team.

Motivated by his ability to excel in sports, Shawn was inspired to become personal trainer and help others realize their goals and fullest potential. Working with a variety of clients with different physical and fitness goals of all ages, Shawn has helped numerous individuals achieve their respective goals.

With his wide range of knowledge and experience, Shawn has facilitated training programs such as hockey camp, boot camp and in-home training sessions. His personal training sessions cater to weight loss, conditioning, strength training and sport-specific training. Shawn enjoys works with the novice fitness enthusiast to fitness models and bodybuilders preparing for competition.

Shawn is passionate about teaching his clients the importance of focus, form and proper execution of all exercises. He is particularly thorough and safe when it comes to working with a client’s physical requirements or limitations while challenging you each time with unique workouts. One workout with Shawn and you will experience the concept of muscle isolation like never before!

Shawn believes in educating his clients and helping others go above and beyond their goals!

Sophia Perri
Raised in Maple, Ont., Sophia Perri has had a love of sports and fitness since she was a child. At the early age of eight, she began progressing in soccer, golf and basketball. At 18, Sophia took her first aerobics class and discovered her true calling. She decided to teach aerobics classes on a part-time basis.

Sophia started her career in fitness as an aerobic/spinning instructor. “I don’t agree with the concept that one program fits both men and women,” she says. Her instruction is focused on improving women’s self esteem through a lifestyle that embraces physical fitness. It was this sentiment that became her motivation to reach more women. With over six years of professional experience, Sophia is a well-respected individual in the fitness community.

Zoe
Zoe is a certified yoga, fitness instructor, and personal trainer. She has practised and studied many styles of yoga, such as hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, and hot Yoga. She combines her love for and training in the styles of hatha and vinyasa yoga into her classes, and will often weave them together to create a flow that both strengthens and calms the body and mind. Zoe has a background teaching body toning, core training, spin, cardio kick-boxing, boot camp, and hatha, vinyasa and hot yoga.

Fitness Philosophy: Zoe believes it is important to have a well-rounded weekly workout regimen involving strength, endurance, and flexibility. “If you challenge your body and mind with different methods and activities, your workouts will never plateau, and you will never be bored.”


Angelica
Front desk reception is what helps keep everything organized and moving smoothly. From answering phone calls, to assisting guests with studio services, to welcoming every single member by his or her first name, Angelica executes it all with a smile.

Angelica is one of our receptionists who helps with our front-end work. She is currently studying kinesiology and health sciences at York University, and found that it would be helpful to work in an environment that would challenge and enhance the knowledge and skills she is learning.

When she is not spending her time at the gym or at school, she is coaching U13 – 14 boys soccer, and volunteering at a kids camp where she works together on a project organized by her professors, hoping to instill and improve physical activity in elementary schools across Ontario.

Angelica would like to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry. She is capable of enabling a person to be the best that they can be for their own individual health, wellness and physical fitness.
